Summer 1940: After the victory over France, Nazi Germany turned to a new front in the Second World War. In the famous Battle of Britain, the German Luftwaffe attempted to gain air superiority and pave the way for landing operations. In "Operation Sea Lion", the Wehrmacht planned to invade the British Isles. At the same time, however, rumours were circulating that Adolf Hitler might be pushing ahead with the construction of a tunnel under the English Channel. The Royal Air Force flew recce flights over the English Channel. From lofty heights, the pilots were to keep an eye out for swirling earth in the Atlantic water. Were the Germans making trouble under the Atlantic? Were the Nazis actually pursuing a plan to build a tunnel or was the British's fear pure paranoia?
