Although Carl Alexander Simon was an important representative of German Romanticism, his life and work have been largely unexplored to date. For Miguel Gaete, Simon is a unique figure who can be used to explore the interaction between Romanticism and colonialism in the 19th century. In the concluding general interview, the art historian explains the goals and challenges of his research project, what makes Simon so special and how his Messiah complex influenced the German colonisation project in Chile.
